Abstract
A partir de 1947, Augusto Roa Bastos tuvo que exiliarse y fijar su residencia en la ciudad de Buenos Aires. Para sobrevivir realizó diferentes trabajos como vendedor, traductor y adaptador de letras para canciones. Como ha sucedido con otros escritores, el exilio, siempre doloroso, no significó el alejamiento del país de origen sino todo lo contrario. Generó en Roa Bastos una necesidad de recuperarlo, a través de la reflexión y de la escritura integradora, en los aspectos históricos, antropológicos y culturales. A pesar de que su producción literaria corresponde a un periodo avanzado del siglo XX, Roa Bastos es casi una figura inaugural de la literatura paraguaya pues, a diferencia de otros países hispanoamericanos, el desarrollo del Paraguay ha sido muy tardío. Se debió a varios factores, pero por sobre todo el geográfico. Fue una región de escaso relieve cultural, excepto por la presencia de jesuitas.Cuadernos de Literatura is registered under a Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 International Public License.
