Abstract
La relectura de Cecilia Valdés privilegia vectores discursivos según los cuales el texto mismo se constituye en una arena ideológica, que evidencia las contradicciones socio-políticas de Cuba antes de su independencia. Esta dimensión se conecta sin duda con la doble filiación estética de la novela, que, si bien sigue trayectos románticos en sus inicios, deriva luego hacia un tipo de realismo social que devela posturas anticolonialistas, abolicionistas e, incluso, independentistas. Asimismo, se explica la tensión entre los señalamientos alegóricos propios de los romances y las ambiguedades de la representación novelesca propiamente dicha. El texto, al no incorporar del todo al otro (negro y mulato) en el proyecto nacional, puede leerse como una resonancia del contradictorio liberalismo asumido por los letrados en los oscuros orígenes de la protonación cubana.Cuadernos de Literatura is registered under a Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 International Public License.
