Abstract

Within the different books written about Le Corbusier’s Master Plan for Bogotá (1949-1951) and his plan for Chandigarh (1951), several authors refer to the way that the Swiss-French architect used the theory of the sector proposed for Bogota, to develop the plan for the new capital of Punjab in India. However these authors never described the way he does it. This article presents a possible interpretation of the relationships between both projects, with attend to highlight the qualities of the housing project dreamed and built by four architects for Chandigarh; Le Corbusier, Jeanneret, Fry and Drew. Chandigarh is a living example of how the modern city is not a failure but a referent from we could learn valuable lessons, in times where discussion and research about housing for the majority stills alive.
