Abstract
This paper presents the results obtained for the properties of adobes, physical, mechanical and chemical, which areessential for understanding the adobe as a structural material and essential for its earthquake-resistant evaluation. The characterization of the material was initially a pilot phase on similar patrimonial adobe specimens (of about 300year-old structures). Later it became an analytical evaluation which compared the results obtained with those of otherresearchers, both in Colombia and the rest of Latin America. Finally, a methodological guide and a characterizationsheet were developed and it is expected that they will be useful for future studies of constructive, structural andearthquake resistant building systems of heritage value and interest constructions. For raw land, adobe and othermodalities construction systems, present in cultural assets, particularly religious architecture (doctrineros chapelsand temples), it is imperative to study rehabilitation procedures with techniques and materials aimed at improving theconditions of their behavior facing the effects of structural seismic activity and natural deterioration.
