Abstract

The text is a narration-reflection on the forms how oral culture can be found implicitly in communities that are immersed in the contemporary society of media consumption. Understood as a semiotic mixture of tradition, the practice of Cuentería (public story-telling) has reached exceptional relevance in Colombia. There is evidence that during the last two decades men and women from all socioeconomic levels and with varying academic backgrounds have increasingly involved in the participation of renewed oral practices; this can be interpreted as a step in a different direction from mass media and as a real opportunity for oral culture.
