Abstract

Leer la novela "Terra Hostra'. implica penetrar todo un cosmos de in­telección del ser latinoamericano a través de la plasmación, literaria, de lo que para Carlos Fuentes es nuestra identidad. Podríamos sintetizar su plan­teamiento diciendo que somos, esencialmente, una cultura mixta, confor­mada, de un lado, por toda nuestra herencia indígena; y de otra, por el in­menso acerbo cultural occidental impuesto a través de la conquista españo­la. Por eso es que, únicamente, a partir de asumir la anterior simbiosis podre­mos llegar a formular y defender lo que él denomina como nuestra "origina­lidad"' . Pues bien, este es el planteamiento de fondo que se descubre al estu­diar la novela, la cual está sustentada, a su vez, en el concepto de novela como "mito, lenguaje y estructura"2.
