Abstract
Esta monografía nació de una doble incomodidad. Tras la lectura de The Oíd Man and the Sea, de Ernest Hemingway, y El Coronel no tiene quién le escriba, de Gabriel García Márquez, me detuvo el vasto número de semejanzas temáticas y formales; el diálogo entre los libros, digno de analizar. Una incomodidad surgió al comprobar que no existía un solo estudio que iluminase, a cabalidad, dicha relación. Por involucrar dos obras valiosas y un diálogo casi inverosímil, me sorprendió aquel vacío. Aun así, la segunda incomodidad me dejó más perplejo: no pude hilar un método interpretativo propicio. Debía, por tanto, fabricar uno que denominé Las Zonas de Influencia.
