Abstract

Las creencias y ritos religiosos aborígenes, especialmente en lo relacionado con la deidad femenina y con la luna, fueron terreno fértil para que la evangelización, de fuerte acentuación Mariana, hecha por España, arraigara fácilmente en el Nuevo Mundo. En ese momento histórico la implantación del culto Mariano era para España garantía contra la penetración del protestantismo anglicano en Hispano América. Las apariciones de la Virgen María en diversos países de la América Española y en muchos lugares de Colombia consolidaron ese culto que hoy adolece de fuerza por cuanto se reduce a las normas exteriores.
