Conferencia leída con motivo del otorgamiento del grado de DOCTOR HONORIS CAUSA EN CIENCIAS SOCIALES Pontificia Universidad Javeriana, Septiembre 29 de 1986
Sean mis primeras palabras de agradecimiento a Dios en este día por haberme permitido consagrar mis fuerzas a la obra de la educación de la juventud en la Universidad Javeriana durante largos años. De una manera especial mi reconocimiento a las directivas de la Universidad por el honor que hoy se me confiere al otorgarme el Doctorado Honoris Causa en Ciencias Sociales. Nunca en mis años de enseñanza hubiera soñado con tal alta distinción, que de hoy en adelante será un estímulo mayor para consagrar mis limitadas fuerzas a la enseñanza y a la investigación científica en los campos de mi predilección: la Antropología , la Sociología y la Historia.
