Abstract
Los grupos indígenas que actualmente viven en Colombia tienen diversos tipos de organización familiar, por lo tanto es imposible definir la "familia indígena", en un concepto sintetizado y unificador. Habría necesidad de estudiarla en cada uno de los casos y luego tratar de sacar conclusiones generales. Pero como el motivo que nos ocupa es el de la diferenciación de la familia en las diferentes comunidades y territorios del país, creemos que será más práctico describirla en aquellas agrupaciones indígenas donde presenta mayores diferencias con el tipo de familia del resto de Colombia. La Waunana y los Guajiro nos presentan dos buenos ejemplos de familias estructuradas de acuerdo a unos parámetros distintos a los del campesino y el habitante de nuestras ciudades.
