Abstract
Este trabajo sobre los problemas teóricos, jurídicos y sociales de1 la unión consensual, se desarrolla en dos partes básicas y complementarias. En la primera parte, tiene lugar el análisis teórico centrado en el punto clave: ¿Qué es la familia y cómo ésta es distinta del matrimonio?. A continuación se hace un planteamiento acerca de los aspectos legales y religiosos con relación a la ruptura del matrimonio. La segunda parte es una presentación de datos de investigación de campo, realizada por los autores en un sector de población de Medellín,- sobre la unión libre; informe de investigación que complementa el estudio teórico.
