Abstract
El tema central de este trabajo es el proceso de socialización del niño indígena y las dificultades con que hoy tropieza ese proceso en nuestro país. Se presenta, a modo de ejemplo, la crianza del niño en el Resguardo de Guambia y se ponen de relieve algunos de los problemas que entraña el ingreso a la escuela para un adecuado proceso de socialización en tales niños, destacando entre esos problemas la ruptura del proceso de socialización familiar y los efectos negativos sobre la identidad cultural del grupo indígena que implica la práctica escolar a la que está sometido. Partiendo de la experiencia del grupo guambiano se hacen algunas generalizaciones - que son propuestas como hipótesis para nuevas investigaciones de campo -, sobre la crianza del niño tanto en el área rural como en la urbana y, en términos más generales, sobre la posibilidad de recuperar los valores humanos que encierra la cultura indígena.
