Abstract
El texto que a continuación se presenta contiene fragmentos de la Lección Inaugural de la Cátedra de Semiología Literaria, que Roland Barthes pronunció el 7 de Enero de 1977 en el Colegio de Francia. La reconstrucción del texto fue elaborada con base en una cinta magnetofónica y en un artículo del diario "Le Monde" del 9-10 de Enero de 1977. La traducción, lo mismo que las líneas de presentación, son del Departamento de Lingüística. Reproducimos estos fragmentos como homenaje póstumo al gran semiólogo francés, cuya muerte acaeció hace ya más de un año. Bastará una rápida ojeada a los epígrafes que aparecen en el texto para lograr una información suficiente sobre el contenido, centrado en torno a la preocupación de Barthes por mostrar la fuerza opresora que genera/mente se oculta en el manejo de la lengua y el papel que debe asumir la Semiología.
