Abstract
Se ha propuesto la Facultad de Filosofía y Letras de la Universidad Jave-riana celebrar este Simposio sobre las Manifestaciones Culturales de la Sociedad Contemporánea. El tema, lejos de ser ajeno a la Universidad, toca la sustancia misma de la Institución, como Universidad, como católica-Pontificia y como Javeriana. A su vez, la índole misma de nuestra Facultad y su misión específicamente humanística, que la identifican dentro de la Univerisdad como su cerebro y corazón, hacen del tema de este Simposio su tarea primordial y prioritaria. Más todavía, la constitución misma de la Facultad en cuyo seno se cultivan siete distintas disciplinas propiamente humanísticas, aconsejan que el Simposio sea diálogo interdisciplinar. Estas tres tesis han de mostrarse con la íntima y esencial relación entre cultura y humanismo. Permitidme las explique y que en discurso razonado las justifique.
