La ecología de la isla de salamanca

La Isla de Salamanca está situada en la costa norte de Colombia entre Barranquilla y Santa Marta. Actualmente, no es una isla sino un brazo areno­so que separa la Ciénaga Grande de Santa Marta del Mar Caribe. Al parecer, en la época del Pleistoceno la Ciénaga Grande era una bahía dentro de la cual desemboca el Río Magdalena o uno o más de sus afluentes. La barra se for­mó, según Raasveldt (1957: 178—92), sobre un banco de arena sumergido en la boca de la bahía, por la acción de la arena a la deriva, las corrientes de mar y las olas. La isla se constituyó por la acumulación de depósitos, sepa­rándose así la Ciénaga Grande del mar.
