Abstract
Ya en el siglo XIX, a partir de los estudios realizados por Woelfflin se logró una revaloración y una apreciación objetiva y positiva del estilo barroco. El manierismo, en cambio, tuvo que esperar hasta el siglo XX para recibir otras miradas distintas de las despectivas. Hasta entonces se había acostumbrado colocar sobre este estilo las etiquetas de amanerado, imitativo, decadente, artificioso, inauténtico, pues los criterios estéticos dominantes en los siglos XVII, XVIII y XIX impidieron calar en las virtudes propias de esa cenicienta de la historia del arte.
