Abstract

Descubrimiento del pueblo de Tequia

La situación geográfica actual corresponde al departamento de Santander del Sur, provincia de García Rovira, cuya capital es Málaga. Cerca de ésta, en dirección sur, se encuentra el antiguo poblado indígena de Tequia.

Gonzalo Suárez Rendan trató vivamente de fundar una ciudad a quien llamasen Málaga y como en la ¡ornada de la Casa del Sol hubiere reconocido que sobre las quebradas de Tequia, que se com­prenden dentro del país de los chitareros, ofrecía el terreno disposi­ción para lograr su intento, eligió por cabo superior a Jerónimo de Aguayo, caballero de Cordobés, de quien podían fiarse empeños de más consecuencia, y ordenóle con veinte caballos y cincuenta infantes tomase aquella empresa a su cargo.
