Abstract
La pertinencia social y académica de este número monográfico tiene que ver, en primer lugar, con los aportes que hace al análisis de losefectos de las redefiniciones de las identidades nacionales como multiculturalesy pluriétnicas en la comprensión de lo racial. En segundolugar, con la posibilidad que ofrece de entender fenómenos como elsurgimiento de políticas de acción afirmativa, que en su conjunto hanreconfigurado el sentido de lo racial y su lugar en los debates públicos.Tercero, en tanto ofrece el examen de la relación entre el desarrollohistórico de las ciencias sociales en América Latina y la raza como categoríaanalítica. Cuarto, con su capacidad de documentar, mediantetrabajos empíricos, la forma en que se ejerce y se experimenta el racismoestructural y cotidiano contra las poblaciones racializadas comoindias o negras en distintos ámbitos, como el de las aulas escolares,los medios de comunicación, las representaciones artísticas y museísticasy los espacios laborales. Finalmente, en cuanto muestra la formaarticulada en que opera la dominación racial con la dominación declase y de género, apuntalándose mutuamente y creando exclusiones.
