Abstract
En este artículo se analizan las relaciones existentes entre la obra, el autor y el público a partir de una lectura detallada de los dos prólogos (el de 1604 y el de 1614) que escribió Cervantes para su obra El ingenioso hidalgo don Quijote de la Mancha. El autor quiere resaltar especialmente la transformación que se opera en el autor entre la Primera y la Segunda Parte de su obra, pues, si en 1604 es Cervantes un autor todavía desconocido que se propone reivindicar esta obra como suya, en 1614 se nos muestra como un autor magnánimo que, sin dejar de defender su creación, prefiere apoyarse en su lucha con Avellaneda en el propio personaje inmortal cuya imaginación ha engendrado. A lo largo de 11 apartados básicos se intentan mostrar las diversas vicisitudes que Cervantes como autor vivió tanto en la creación como a propósito de la publicación de su famosa novela.
