Abstract
Las mitologías amerindias suelen incluir representaciones paradigmáticas de las relaciones sexuales. En el caso los muiscas las versiones incluyen la ideal unión de un hombre y una mujer, el incesto, el adulterio e incluso, la esterilidad masculina. Adicionalmente, tales relaciones míticas suelen explicar la antropogénesis y la cosmogénesis, lo que acrecienta nuestra incertidumbre: ¿Por qué el origen de la sociedad es producto del incesto?
Argumentaré que la mitología es una construcción social, y que una de sus funciones es convertirse en modelo para el comportamiento. Sin embargo, los modelos no son reflejo de las relaciones sociales, y frecuentemente, parecen expresar contravenciones de la realidad. Para comprender las significaciones de los símbolos es, pues, indispensable analizar las relaciones sociales de las cuales son producto.
