Abstract
El artículo compara una de las primeras novelas policíacas de América Latina, O Mysterio, con la novela vanguardista brasileña, Macunaíma, de Mário de andrade, bajo la perspectiva de la pregunta por la conformación heterogénea de la literatura moderna en América Latina. Nuestra tesis es que ambas obras, tan diferentes en sus propósitos y en su ubicación dentro del conjunto se la literatura moderna, constituyen un paso importante para la modernización de las letras brasileñas de los años veinte.
