Abstract
La correspondencia de Silva que los biógrafos y críticos han podido recopilar y editar, reúne escritos de diversa índole que representan facetas amplias de su vida, de su carácter y visión de mundo. Son documentos de especial valor para el estudioso porque es el propio poeta el que nos descubre sus anhelos, creencias y valores sin la intermediación de biógrafos malévolos, pretendidos amigos o críticos repetidores de lugares comunes. Las cartas, junto con los diversos textos narrativos y poéticos, son una prueba para la demolición de las innumerables injurias y calumnias de la crítica, documentos de primera mano que traslucen las aspiraciones y luchas de un hombre del siglo XIX que escogió el arte como sentido de vida.

The journal Universitas Humanística is registered under a Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 International Public License. Thus, this work may be reproduced, distributed, and publicly shared in digital format, as long as the names of the authors and Pontificia Universidad Javeriana are acknowledged.
