Abstract
La conferencia, "La Literatura y Yo", fue leída en los "Jueves de Literatura" organizados por el Dpto. de Literatura conjuntamente con el Sector Cultural del Medio Universitario de la Universidad Javeríana. En ella Gómez V. hace según sus propias palabras, una "confesión personal". Expone sus vinculaciones con la literatura desde su primer acceso a ella -a través de la poesía y la iniciación en el cuento— hasta su novela como conjetura histórica. Utilizando como instrumento el relato de su experiencia personal, el autor plantea los problemas del escritor y de la creación literaria tales
como la recreación de la realidad en la novela, la importancia de las influencias externas en la formación del escritor y su justo balance con la originalidad, la soledad necesaria para poder crear y ser libre para expresar su mundo. Pedro Gómez afirma que la posición del escritor en la sociedad requiere la expresión de su pensamiento ante los valores fundamentales de esta. En el caso concreto del conferencista, se manifiesta en su "doble vida": la literatura y la política; El derecho y su participación en la vida política, ai lado del oficio literario, han permitido a Gómez V. comprender muchos aspectos de la vida y contemplar muchos elementos de esta con un saludable escepticismo.
