Abstract
En este artículo se revisan los planteamientos teóricos alrededor de los cuales surge y se desarrolla el concepto de movilidad social. Se repasan las distintas acepciones de este concepto y los resultados de investigaciones empíricas sobre el tema en la literatura internacional, en América Latina y en Colombia. De igual manera, se hace una reflexión sobre la relación entre movilidad espacial y movilidad social. Finalmente, se examinan los planteamientos metodológicos usados en su abordaje, con el objeto de visualizar lo que sería una noción operativa de estudios empíricos de movilidad.
