Abstract
La presente ponencia forma parte de lo que hemos denominado «Programa general de Etnohistoria Wayúu», adelantado en parte con la financiación de la Pontificia Universidad Javeriana y Colciencias. El trabajo «Relaciones de contacto en La Guajira en el siglo XVI: Wayúu (negros), arijunas en las pesquerías de perlas del Cabo de la Vela, 1540-1570» realizado con Hernán Darío Correa, es la primera etapa de dicho Programa y dentro de ella se ubica este ensayo.
