Abstract
In this presentation and comments on Empedocles' texts, the author seeks to restore the complexity of his life and work. He proposes to go beyond the reductionism to which Empedocles' studies have been limited, as well as to surpass the image of incoherence some researchers have found in his work and goes beyond the elaborate explanations and attempts made by some authors to reconcile this so-called incoherence. The multifaceted character of Empedocles' wisdom stems naturally from both the sources of his knowledge and the peculiarities of his historical circumstances, as well as from his universal love for knowledge. It is precisely these characteristics that are all the more interesting in his thought, and make his study particularly rewarding. Empedocles is a rare master of wisdom due to the fact that he believed research on nature could not be separated from service to divinity, and because he did not oppose poetry to rational rigor. This dissertation is based upon some recent reflections on the work of the Greek philosopher. This journal is registered under a Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 International Public License.
