Abstract

A contribution to the measurement of new ict (Information and Communication Technology) progress in the Colombian service business sector is made. On the conceptual basis contributed by Lugones et al. (2008), a compound ict Utilization, Readiness and Impact index (índice de Uso, Preparación e Impacto de las TIC - IUPITIC) is developed, which assesses business performance beyond equipment acquisition, thus overcoming the currently available alternatives. Based on the 2008 Yearly Service Survey (Encuesta Anual de Servicios - EAS) data, the estimation of this index is done through multivariate statistic analysis techniques. The obtained overall service firm index is quite low (0.20). Moreover, a digital gap between small and large firms was detected.
