Sobre las escrituras pantanosas y los murmullos vegetales en La amortajada de María Luisa Bombal

Abstract

This text wants to show some of the theoretical effects that arise when linking writing with the life and form of the swamp. I review some fundamental moments of “La amortajada” (1975) by María Luisa Bombal, to state that reading with vegetable eyes allows us to discover new textual relationships that contemplate the existence of other lives in literature and that stimulate new ways of speaking about the world. I also propose that the appearance of plant (vegetal) phenomena in the novel has important political and environmental implications, since Bombal enriches the setting of plant-writing by giving agency to matter and to plant and animal kingdoms. In this sense, theory, literary creation and research come together in a powerful triad thanks to the effects of thinking from the image of the swamp.
