Abstract
Cereus Blooms at Night fue publicada por primera vez en Estados Unidosen 1999; es la primera novela de la artista visual Shani Mootoo. Shani, de ascendencia India, nació en Irlanda, fue criada en Trinidad y a los 19 años ganó una beca para estudiar arte en la universidad de Ontario (Canadá). Este múltiple origen ha marcado su obra de manera fundamental. Su obra literaria (Out on Main Street (cuentos) y Cereus… que reseñamos aquí) siempre contiene personajes que se desplazan entre los límites borrosos de las identidades, atravesados por la sensación de no pertenecer a ninguna parte, ya sea a una identidad cultural, sexual o racial.
