Abstract

Este trabajo estudia un texto canónico de la literatura argentina, el Martín Fierro (1872-1878) de José Hernández, con el objetivo de explorar, a partir de un debate sobre masculinidad y nación, el lado sentimental del criollismo. Aunque se piensa en el gaucho imaginado por Hernández como el arquetipo de una masculinidad estoica que debe reprimir sus emociones para luchar en las guerras de frontera, se pretende demostrar que esa visión dominante borra el exceso afectivo lacrimógeno que recorre el texto.
