Abstract
Dentro de una visión geográfica que se cree moderna y objetiva, cuatro relatos de viajeros construyen al Cuzco. Los viajeros extranjeros articularon a través de la fragmentación, un discurso homogeneizador que construyó a la ciudad del Cuzco como un cuerpo sepulcral, despojado del paisaje social y reprimido en sus memorias históricas. Los viajeros nacionales positivistas crearon el mito de la despoblación que asociaba la estructura étnica de la sociedadcon la imposibilidad de acceso a la modernidad. El viaje de Riva Agüero al Cuzco pone en evidencia el fracaso del proyecto integrador del mestizaje y da paso a mapear la ciudad como un sepulcro profanado. Los intelectuales locales cusquenios, como Luis E. Valcárcel reposicionan históricamente al Cuzco, dentro de la invención de sus tres tradiciones (incaica, hispánica y libertadora) y del desentierro de memorias nacionales reprimidas.
