Abstract

Since the end of the last century, the increase in natural catastrophes, both in number and in insured losses, has resulted in the development of alternative forms of transfer and financing of traditional, but also emergent risks not subject to coverage until now. One of these solutions is parametric insurance, which makes it possible to accelerate the indemnity processes, benefiting both insured and insurers. This article develops the concept of parametric insurance, as a mechanism for financial protection against catastrophes.
