Abstract

The administration of psychiatric medicines by the nurse is a current duty in this profession. In order to achieve the stabilization and complete recover of the psychiatric patient, it is important to pay special attention to the pharmacological treatment adherence. This nurse's daily activity implies the study of the knowledge and handle of the different groups of psychopharmacs and the different risk factors for each group of patients. The relation between each mental disease, the social and institutional factors that affects the nurses job, even the nurses own personal factors must be analyzed in order to understand the relationship, affecting the treatment adherence and the therapy itself. This paper concludes with some strategies in which we must insist the research in order to achieve better results in psychiatric treatment adherence.
