Abstract
This article presents a review of studies on metacognition as a reflection strategy in the teaching and learning processes in Nursing programs. The search process was carried out in the Web of Science database between 2015-2021, using the Prisma methodology. The analysis of the information allowed us to identify four trends a) metacognition in the teaching and learning processes with some group didactics, b) metacognition in the learning processes with clinical simulation, c) reflective learning as a metacognitive regulation strategy applied to evaluation processes, d) metacognition in the curricular plans of academic health programs. The review allowed me to delve into the teaching and learning processes that have been advanced about cognitive and metacognitive skills in the spaces of academic training in health, which leads to a change from a traditional educational model focused on content to another model centered on learning that imply a conscious and participative reflection on the part of the students.
