Abstract
This is a descriptive investigation than exposes the self-care experiences of the mental sick person's caretaker in a Third Level Institution in Bogotá D.C., from October to November 2003. The information was recollected with an applied a semi-estructured interview to 10 persons - women between 39 - 81 years old, who take care some relative with mental illness. The experiences found in favor of the own care, it can be appoint in the physical health, the balanced feeding, the daily hygiene and to be pending of their illnesses; in the mental health, sleeping like a relax activity, watching TV and to make manual works to relax and like hobby; in the social health, to stay near the family and/or friends, although to be in contact with another persons to the familiar nucleus too, standing out the poor concurrence to the social groups.
