Abstract

Abstract: What is the relationship that images settle with memory and history? Or even better: what is the function that photographs have in a determinate narration of past facts? In what form an image is able to synthetize a fact and also to become a mnemonic substitute of it? We want to considerate images not only as knowledge and historical memory intermediate but also as a constructor (not neutral) of individual and collective look over the world. At the end, the text asks about the possibility of considering a Colombian shared repertory of recent images. If this repertory exists, like we think, we want to ask why these images and not another have prevail over the rest. To answer that question, we use (in a critical perspective) the concept of secular icon, applied to an exercise that we made with a group of students.
