Abstract

Book review: Rheingold, H. (2004). Multitudes inteligentes. La próxima revolución social (Smart Mobs). Trad.: Marta Pino Moreno. Barcelona: Gedisa. ISBN: 84-9784-062-3.

Howard Rheingold's book offers us a suggestive approach to what he calls "the next social revolution": the smart mobs. It refers to "groups of people who undertake collective mobilizations -political, social, economic- thanks to the fact that a new means of communication enables other modes of organization, on a novel scale, between people who until then could not coordinate such movements" (p 13). In this sense, Rheingold opens the panorama towards a wide range of social practices and mobile cooperation resources fostered by new technologies and permanent access to wireless mobile Internet in hand.
