Abstract
Hace ciencuenta años la Universidad Javeriana, clausurada en 1767, reabrió sus puertas a la juventud colombiana con la seguridad de cumplir el compromiso secular adquirido en la Colonia. Las circunstancias del país eran muy serias: empezaba a sentirse la crisis económica mundial de 1929; la política colombiana daba un giro de ciento ochenta grados, cuando un partido político cedía el solio de Bolívar al presidente de la Unión Nacional, Enrique Olaya Herrera; la cuestión social, como se llamaba entonces al desequilibrio de los bienes entre pobres y ricos, dejaba sentir su creciente tenaza y se hablaba de diversos medios para mejorar la situación. La nueva etapa de la Universidad Javeriana debía ser de afirmación ante la realidad nacional, de soluciones claras a la situación del país. Para ello iniciaba su trabajo académico con una Facultad de Ciencias Económicas y Jurídicas, combinando así en la formación del nuevo profesional el conocimiento de lo económico y el avance de una legislación de acuerdo con el país.
