Abstract
Este trabajo contiene, en forma general, una historia crítica de los estudios que se han realizado en torno al objeto LENGUAJE, procurando que los hechos que se mencionan revelen ciertos aspectos evaluativos para que el itinerario resulte más crítico que simplemente descriptivo. La historia de la lingüística es un vasto proceso sobre el cual varios enfoques han proporcionado luces para desentrañar la naturaleza del lenguaje. La gramática tradicional, la gramática comparada, el estructuralismo han apartado consideraciones muy valiosas para aclarar este tópico. Con todo, es la epistemología genética la que hoy en día está aportando criterios fuertemente explicativos sobre el hecho llamado LENGUAJE. Desde este marco los métodos de la epistemología están iluminando el camino de penetración al laberinto del lenguaje. Varias razones justifican el enfoque epistemológico como la pertinencia desde la cual es posible esta presentación. Se trata de ser cuidadoso con guardar la coherencia de este enfoque para que resulte pertinente el punto de vista opcionado.
