Abstract

Al siglo XX puede llamársele el siglo de la Lingüística. Son fun­damentales los aportes de Saussure. De las inquietudes dejadas por él, surgen otros muchos estudiosos del lenguaje, cuya enumeración no es del caso. Sin embargo, y para centrar lo que verdaderamente nos interesa, es bueno nombrar a Bloomfield, sobre todo, por el esfuerzo de aplicar la matemática a la lingüística, tendencia que se va a acen­tuar mucho más én las teorías de la Gramática Generativa. Chomsky vio la necesidad de formular toda la gama de premisas, axiomas, pos­tulados, relaciones, etc., para así explicitar, de una manera formal y rígida, las leyes y resultados de la ciencia del lenguaje. De esta ma­nera la Gramática Generativa chomskiana se presenta como un au­téntico sistema matemático, con sus correspondientes teorías lógicas.
