Abstract
Como resultado de una primera experiencia investigativa en el Archivo Histórico Nacional, el presente artículo es apenas un enunciado del problema etnohistórico concerniente al sistema de sucesión de cacicazgos en un grupo indígena colombiano ya extinguido: los guane.
En el siglo XVI, el asentamiento de los guane se ubicaría en
Santander del Sur, concretamente en las hoyas de los ríos Suárez y
Fonce. Lingüísticamente se colocan dentro de la familia Chibcha, por
ser su lengua muy semejante a la de los muisca y a pesar de la ve-
cindad de grupos con lenguas de familia Karib, como los yareguíes,,
los carare, los opón.
