Abstract
Cuando en 1880 los investigadores Gabriel de Mortillet, Cartail-
hac y Piette demostraban la existencia de grabados paleolíticos en asta
de reno y marfil, predominaba el criterio de que el hombre primitivo
carecía de ideas religiosas organizadas y como tal de religión, aunque
tendría finos sentimientos artísticos. El problema de la interpretación
del arte paleolítico estaba planteado y la pregunta central era: ¿Qué
intentaron expresar los artistas paleolíticos si no es posible atribuirles
nociones de orden religioso?
