Abstract
The purpose of this article is to present Finnis’s ethical approach to sexuality, a reflection for which the term ‘sexual ethics’ can be used. The central theme of the article is John Finnis’s theoretical and practical study of an ethics of practical rationality that demonstrates the possibility of making objective judgments about the good and reasoning about goodness, and the relation of this proposal to sexuality in the text “Every Marital Act Ought to be Open to New Life. Toward a Clearer Understanding.” John Finnis’s theory of natural law has a notion of the basic goods of the human being, which allows us to redefine natural law on the basis of rational theology. His naturalistic approach highlights basic goods that are intrinsically valuable for human beings, such as life, health, religion and sociability, that allow us to think about sexuality.
