Abstract
La mortalidad es una fuerza demográfica clave, que debe complementarse con el estudio de la
morbilidad y la carga de la enfermedad para poder esbozar el panorama epidemiológico completo
de una nación. Los resultados de esta síntesis muestran las variaciones de la mortalidad en
Colombia durante los últimos cien años. Esto tiene como propósito presentar de manera asequible
los procesos de mortalidad para que éstos puedan ser fácilmente conectados al resto del
esquema demográfico del país. Algunos de estos resultados siguen los patrones del modelo
tradicional de la transición epidemiológica, otros difieren de ese arquetipo pero son comunes a
los de la mayoría de los países en desarrollo, y otros son exclusivos de Colombia.
