Abstract
El presente documento recoge los resultados de varios años de esfuerzo de un grupo de profesores y
estudiantes de los Posgrados en Administración de Salud de la Universidad Javeriana en esta línea de
investigación. El marco teórico realiza una revisión de las principales aproximaciones conceptuales
la calidad en salud, así como precisa la importancia y el impacto del seguimiento permanente a los
indicadores más relevantes en la prestación de los servicios de salud. El desarrollo metodológico
posterior ofrece a los responsables de la gestión de calidad en las instituciones prestadoras de servicios,
los elementos necesarios para aproximarse al diseño de un sistema de indicadores práctico y útil
para la toma de decisiones.
El documento constituye un importante avance en especial en dos aspectos relevantes: la notable
mejora en la solidez del marco conceptual, y la incorporación del manejo integral de los indicadores
clínicos de calidad, por lo cual se constituye en un punto referencial para los trabajos subsecuentes
en el tema.
