Abstract
La pandemia del
VIH/Sida ha dejado de ser interpretada exclusivamente como un problema de
salud pública, para comenzar a ser considerada como uno de seguridad. Por ello, este trabajo
analiza la pandemia del
VIH/Sida desde la teoría de la sociedad del riesgo, tomando como caso
de análisis Sudáfrica. En ese sentido, tanto el patrón socioepidemiológico como la magnitud de
esta enfermedad en los países no desarrollados se puede concebir como el resultado de la sobre
acumulación de consecuencias perversas de su proceso de modernización simple. Esta implicación
ha generado un régimen de riesgo (es decir, una economía política de la inseguridad y de
la incertidumbre) caracterizado principalmente por relaciones de género y procesos de individualización
violentos, relaciones laborales precarias e inestables y representaciones de la enfermedad
ambiguas, contradictorias y sesgadas, tanto entre los ciudadanos como en las instituciones
públicas responsables de su control y prevención.
