Perceived Care Needs of Children, Caregivers and Nurses during Hospitalization in an Intensive Care Unit

Abstract
Objective: To identify the needs of children between 8 and 18 years of age and theircarers and nurses during hospitalization in intensive care. Methods: A descriptivecross-sectional design was used. The sample consisted of a total of 60 participants:20 children, 20 caregivers and 20 nurses. Questionnaire to collect information onCritical Care Family Needs Inventory (CCFNI) was applied. Results: It was foundthat the most common needs were related to the dimension of security and communicationfor caregivers and nurses, and support for children. Conclusions: Given theneeds perceived as priority, the nurse must be careful with how they provide informationand how they approach to the child and the caregiver; also they must seekstrategies to reduce stress that causes the issues covered in the dimensions of safety,support and help, remembering that the human being requires a holistic care. Equallyimportant are the recreational needs expressed by children and their caregivers.
