Abstract

Colombia is one ofthe countries where a restructuring process ofthe electric industry has taken place in the recent years. The aim of this article is to show the Colombian experience in implementing and managing structural changes in the electric markets. Iniatially a brief description of the main features of the Colombian electric subsector and its situation before the reforms is presented. After that, the goals and objectives ofthe reforms are analyzed and the main issues ofthe wholesale marketfor electricity are presented. Finally, some ofthe most relevant evolution posibilities of the restructuring process of the Colombian electricity market are discussed.
