Abstract
Photojournalism is an under-utilized and understudied source in Colombian history. For this reason it is necessary that the historian employ a process whereby he or she knows the diverse circumstances that have intervened to produce a given source. This article discusses the way in which photography can be used as historical source, specifically as photojournalism dealing with one of the most photographed events in our history: the 9th of April, 1948 in Bogotá and the death of Jorge Eliecer Gaitán. The photographs of the journal "Cromos" show us the images produced after the death of Gaitán, centered on the theme of the destruction of the center of the Bogotá.
