Abstract

The main objective was to analyze the level of enjoyment perceived in physical education by elementary school students when participating in games, as a function of gender, type of social relationships promoted, sport experience and competition. A total of 152 elementary school students aged 8 to 12 years participated. Enjoyment was assessed using the BECS scale and emotional experience with the GES-C. The results showed that the use of games in physical education classes can be an optimal resource to favor enjoyment and motivated learning among schoolchildren. Among the different types of games that can be applied, those of collaboration-opposition were the ones that generated the highest levels of enjoyment. Girls reported greater enjoyment than boys. The competition and the sporting experience of the schoolchildren did not reveal differences in their enjoyment. In conclusion, teachers should favor a learning climate that supports motivation and enjoyment in Physical Education classes.
